LIBRARY

The college has a well-furnished library having more than 53000 books and subscribing to various journals. The library stocks many old and prestigious books. Many of the books have been donated by various people on various subjects. A special section is devoted to the Gandhian Literature. At present Mr. B.R.Choudhary is Librarian.

 At A Glance


Introduction :-
The library is an Important educational centre of the college. The College has an excellent central library posses a wide collection of books and subscribes various journals to cater the academic needs of the students and faculties. The library is the hub of the academic students life in the campus. this library was established in the year 1961 with 424 number of Books. The library stocks many old and prestigious books. The central library plays a pivotal role to the teaching –learning processes in the collegiate progress. The 3500 square feet accommodation is lighted up and comfortably furnished, partially automated library with a seating capacity for 100 members. The library presently possesses around 45657 books and subscribes regular  periodicals including both journals and magazines including two details. A special section is devoted to the Gandhian literature. The library department is run by the B. Lib. & I. Sc. Courses with  30 seats and proposed course by the M. Lib. & I. Sc.
Facilities :-
·  The e-books and e-journals are also available in the library through www.inflibnet.ac.in. the library has INFLIBNET (N-List) facility for accessing 97000+ e-books and 6000+full text e-journals and the number is increasing from time to time.
·  The library remains open on all the working days except Sundays and notified academic calendar. The library is opened  from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm on all working days.
·  The library uses library management software, for its housekeeping operations.
·  Availability of OPAC searching facility fulfils  is one of the salient features of the library.
·  The members have open access to the library collection. Each shelf is accompanied by  shelf guide, which indicates shelf number, class number, book number, edition and the concerned subject.
·  The internet browsing facilities are also available, but only educational sites are allowed to surf.
·  The photocopy and print-out facilities are also available in the library, keeping the rules of plagiarism in this context.
·  The library is well equipped with LAN-connected computers with internet facility.
·  The library provides current-awareness services to the readers through new arrivals display, newspaper clippings and announcement posters etc.
·  The Proposed surveillance  made through the CCTV installation  for the library.
·  The library follows Dewey Decimal Classification (21nd ed.) to systematize and process system.
Library Committee :-
·  The library committee annually compiles a budget proposal by  considering the requirement of different departments to be placed before the principal.  The central library and the departmental library have been utilizing  funds of the UGC grants under the supervision of the library committee.
·  The effective functioning of the library is ensured by the library committee and headed by the principal (chairperson), who is assisted by the convener, librarian, representative of various departments.
·  The library has an approved policy on the collection and development supports  introduction of new services, terms of funds, annual increase of budget, binding procedure, weeding out of unserviceable books and policy on loss of books and an ongoing commitment of the institution in deputing library professionals for continuing educational  programmes.
Services :-
The library offers a wide range of services from references to the electronic information services by ensuring appropriate services to the academic community. and Lends  facilities on a regular basis. The library provides the following basic services:-
1.  Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) :- The Library book catalogue are Author-based, Subject, title- based searching and other advanced aided search facilities are characterized under  OPAC. available on the  online form which systematically record the holding/collection to find out the physical location of information for the govtbilasagirlscollegelibrary.com.
2.  N-List online facilities:- The direct access to the e-books and e-journals through INFLIBNET N-List consortium help the users to easily find out their required informations under both in-house & remote access.
3.  Reference & Information Services :- Reference service : long range and ready reference services  provide to the users.
4.  Reading Room Services:- More than 100 students has read in the reading room along with new arrival books, news papers, competitive books, health and sports magazines and research Journals and play  vital roles to boost  students and  lead to  groom them to the present scenario of competition and communication.
5.  Reprography :- Photocopy service is available to the users for Rs 1.00 per page. It is the facility for reproduction of documents with printing and microfilming.

Library Users :- More than 3,000 users including the UG/PG students, teaching and Non teaching Staff are benefitted.
Book Bank Scheme :- The text book/book bank scheme are facilitated  and the SC,ST and BPL Students are benefited.
Orientation Programme :- The  orientation programme scheme is followed for the fresher students.
National Workshop :-
  The department of library and  information science, Govt Bilasa Girl’s P. G.  (Autonomous) College, Bilaspur and department of library & information science, Dr. C.V. Raman University, Bilaspur in collaboration with hase approched to organize national workshop on Trends In Research, Ethical Issues & Uses Of Anti-Plagiarism For Research Integrity . date 277/02/2019.

Rules and Regulations :-
1.  Each student is entitled for  the membership  of the library.
2.  The members have opened access to the library therefore they are restricted to deposite their briefcases, bags, umbrellas, lunch boxes and other personal belongings at the entrance in custody of the  property counter in-charge.
3.  The members are to show their library card on entering the library, while borrowing books and journals and if asked to show again any time by the library Staff.
4.  The member has to sign on  the register being available at the entrance.
5.  The students are allowed to be issued 2 books for 15 days and may renew the same for the additional 15 days.  The faculty members are allowed to be  issued 5 books for 30 days .
6.  On retaining books for more than the stipulated time frame  is liable to slap/impose fine for . 0.50 paise /day/book.
7.  A non member may also use the library material in the premises by permission of the librarian.
8.  The members are allowed to use reading room for the reading purposes on submission of their library cards.
9.  The readers are not allowed to mark, underline, dog-ear mark, write, tear pages and damage  the library documents.
10.  Immense  silence, and discipline are adviced to maintains decorum.
11.  The members are expected  behave in a reasonable and decent manner  in the library and must not damage the library properties and  disturb other members.
12.  Smoking, eating, sleeping and talking loudly creating nuisance are strictly prohibited in the Library.
13.  The newspapers and magazines must be read only in the library on the specific tables and should not be taken to any other reading spots.
14.  Mobil Phones should keep switched off while entering the library.
